Description This 0.66 m-x-0.38 m test pit was dug on July 13, 1994, beginning 1.86 m north of the south balk. It was the width of the first step in Locus 25 and extended to the west side of Locus 20, ashlar wall. Its purpose was to help define Locus 20, ashlar wall, Locus 24, step, and Locus 25, bedding. It contained three levels of rock and two levels of fill. It established that Locus 20, wall had two courses at this location and that it then lay on a layer of rock. It also established that Locus 24, step did not have a second course under it and disproved the theory that it might be a wall. The test reaffirmed the idea that Loci 24 and 25 represented steps, and as a result, the trench was extended north to look for more steps which were discovered. No pottery was found.
