Description | Locus 9 is a thin layer of Munsell 5YR4/4 reddish brown loose silty soil of fine consistency. The deposit measures 0.08 m north south-by-3.10 m east west and is located directly in the limestone cut channel (Locus 8). Small finds in the deposit include nominal amounts of pottery and charcoal. Judging from the location of this deposit, Locus 9 represents the accumulation of fine silt during the use of the limestone water channel, presumably continuing through SP 96 Stage 6. The ultimate filling of the channel with soil (by Stage 6) likely necessitated the later addition of the parallel ceramic channel, Locus 15. |
