Bird Specimens Description | >4mm flotation #4088 (#1-7), 19 liters. Includes one burnt fragment of rodent skull and one unburnt mammalian skull fragment. The rest looks like bird, all long bone, about 40% calcined gray. Most seems to be medium bird, multiple specimens. One proximal humerus fragment, the rest shaft fragments. >4mm flotation #4093 (#8-21) has several mammalian bits, and a biggish collection of bird fragments, mostly long bones but throughout the body. >4mm flotation #4097 and seems to say also #4090 (#22-42), 20 liters, is a fairly large sample, less fragmented than usual. Fairly even body part distribution, less weighted to long bones than usual. About 40% burnt. Another bag of >4mm flotation #4088 (#43-52) has a couple of mammalian specimens including part of a hare mandible, and a moderate assemblage of bird bone, mostly long bone shaft fragments but with wing and leg bones including a toe. About half burnt. >4mm flotation #4091 (#53-62), 16 liters, is about half mammal, leaving several bid bones spread through the body. About a third are carbonized. A variety of bird sizes. >4mm flotation #4089 (#63-72), 15 L, after removal of several mammalian and amphibian specimens, is a medium assemblage of medium-large birds, spread through the body. About 1/3 burnt. >4mm flotation #4085 (#73-89), 21 L, has a certain amount of mammal and amphibian, mostly microfauna. Moderate collection of bird bone, mostly medium, spread through the body. About half burnt. Surface condition pretty fresh. >4mm flotation #4094 (#90-110), 19 L, has several mammalian and amphibian bits including an artifact fragment. There remains a moderate assemblage of mostly medium bird bone, spread through the body. About half is burnt. >4mm flotation #4096 (#111-123), 22 liters, has a bit of non-bird and a moderate amount of bird. Mostly medium, diagnostics breast and wing plus a vertebra. About 40% burnt. >4mm flotation #4095 (#124-135), 33 liters, has a moderate amount of mostly medium bird, mostly breast and wing. About 40% burnt. |
