Bird Specimens Description | >4mm flotation #5017 (#1-24) has several non-bird pieces, but a sizable assemblage of bird specimens, mostly long bones but through the body. About one-third burnt; medium and small birds. Another bag of >4mm flotation (#25-33) says #5012 but I suspect is also 5017 misread, since 5012 belongs to another unit. About a third are mammalian and amphibian (some burnt); the small amount of bird is variable in size, with a variety of body parts but mostly long bones. About a third of these are burnt. Another bag has >3mm dry-sieved material (#34-56), apparently unwashed. About a third is amphibian and mammal. The bird remains are mostly medium with some small, spread pretty evenly through the body. Surface condition somewhat variable. And another bag of hand-picked material (#57-61) has some odd bits of goose and duck-size remains. |
