Description | These three blocks, C4/1180-1182, fell together as a unit in the southeast corner of the trench, Locus 1, destruction debris. They were given a locus number because they appeared at first to be a feature. They probably tumbled out of the hypothetical East-West Wall, which runs east from the first 'Adyton' column, whose exposed top drum is engaged on the east (the drum is also engaged on the north, where it meets the southward extension of the West Anta (Patricia) wall). Presumably, this East-West Wall belongs to Stage 1, Temple Construction, but this will be dependent upon future excavations. The blocks themselves were diagonally-dressed, sandstone ashlars (average dimensions 62 m-x-42 m-x-41 m) with white stucco preserved on one surface. They were joined with thin, sandy, slightly pink mortar. |
Definition | Fallen wall blocks. |
