General remarks | This is a circular area with its edge visible in the E side. Its soil has no significant difference than the outisde area of L.38. It dissappeared after excavating it about 10-13 cm. and then became visible again. This shows that when the area is humid it does not show its edge and any color difference or texture from L.38. Slight difference in the soil color and the more or less circular edge only appear after the area receieves several hours of strong sunlight. It is not clear if it is a pit or not, or another feature. This locus remains open since it was still visible in the trench. -- This feature was already discovered in 2004 and L.29 was given by the supervsor. Since the trench is at the E edge of the mound, it lacks with any feature except this one and represent Ubaid fill for the most of its area and the loose ashy soil in the E portion, especially the NE quadrant is representative of the debris from later periods. |

Has note | Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci. |
