Stage Stage 2
Definition West Scalarion.
Stage Description Addition of the Theater with the construction of the cavea, orchestra, intercolumnar walls, twin vaulted chambers, East and West Interior Staircases and the Central Arch.
Description The West Scalarion providing access from the walkway of the bottom tier to seating in higher tiers in the west half of the Cavea. The Scalarion is constructed of sandstone blocks approximately 0.65-0.80 m wide and ranging from 0.18 m to 0.22 m in height. The third step from the bottom (Step c) and half of the fourth step (Step d) are missing, shattered by the collapse debris and specifically a 1/4 capital that was found upside-down in this spot. The elevations for the Scalarion, including the walkway of the lowest tier and the exposed steps (a-g), from bottom to top are: Walkway 887.55 m, Step a 887.77 m, Step b 888.97 m, Step c missing, Step d 888.36 m, Step e 888.58 m, Step f 888.76 m, Step g 888.95 m. Because of the displacement of the steps in this Scalarion as a result of falling debris, it is difficult to acquire an accurate measure of the tread for each of the steps. However, the entire top surface of Step b is exposed with the absence of Step c revealing a roughly hewn portion (0.13 m wide) along the back of the surface which would have been covered by the step above it. This leaves a smooth surface of 0.26 m depth for its tread. (Seq. 47163).
Size Measurements: 2.80 m in depth (northeast-southwest), 0.80 m in width (northwest-southeast); 1.40 , in height.
