Phase Description |
|
Stage | Stage 3 |
Definition | Fill against the western face of well and Eastern Perimeter Wall |
Top (m) | Opening Elevation: 1.26 m below Sub datum SP 84 B or 908.042 m. |
Overlies | Locus 8, bedrock, Locus 19, green mortar in well, Locus 20, plastering of bedrock floor of well, Locus 21, lower bedrock in well and cistern area. |
Description | A large amount of fill accumulated against the face of the bedrock in the well area at the south of SP 84 and around the face of the East Perimeter Wall in this area. The soil was loose, coarse, and full of pebbles and cobbles, bones, some bits of burn residue, shells, and a great deal of pottery. Its Munsell reading was 2.5YR4/6, Red, the same color as Locus 1. Due to this similarity and to the overall resemblance in artifactual content between these two large loci, it is highly probable that they mark the same stage or stages of debris accumulation after the room and surrounding area had ceased to be occupied. Locus 13 is probably slightly earlier in its deposition than Locus 1 due to its position at the foot and along the front face of the bedrock, but it is nonetheless one of the final stages seen in the archaeological record of this area. The amount of pottery to come out of this locus is staggering, as was that found in Locus 1. |
Combined with | Locus 1 fill. These two loci were similar in composition, and probably both mark related erosive wash down or dumping phases in this area. |
Stage Description | Destruction and accumulation of debris. |
Location | Starts at western edge of bedrock in the north, falling into the well and cistern area in the south, and lies against the west face of the East Perimeter Wall. |
Bottom (m) | Closing Elevation: 3.98 m below Sub datum SP 84 B or 905.322 m. |
Relations | Extends up to the face of: Locus 17, East Perimeter Wall, Locus 18, cut in bedrock for well. |
