Description | Brown (Munsell 7.5 YR 5/4), coarse, sandy soil in the top two thirds of the North Doorway (Locus 3). The soil deposit was similar to that of Locus 1. The fill removed included some large ashlars and architectural plaster. We excavated the doorway by leaving a 0.20 m area around either side of the doorway, in order to protect any extant walls. When the area was examined, however, no plaster remained in situ. The bottom 0. 20 m of this layer included some of the previous fluvial deposit. |
