Definition Engaged column (A.G.R.).
Description The column was constructed of dressed, sandstone blocks and is preserved with four courses of drums. The main portions of the drums were hewn from a single piece of stone, with a rounded "front" on the north and the western side tapered in at the southern end. The tapered portion was then faced with additional smaller stones to create the effect of a flat wall — a 90° angle to meet wall Locus 33. A portion of architectural stucco found in situ on the west side indicates that the column was also plastered. The east side of the column, which represents the exterior face of the complex, was well-dressed like an ashlar block, with an incised line denoting the transition from the rounded to the straight portion.
