Description | The threshold of this doorway was filled in antiquity with unhewn ashlars and collapsed architectural fragments. It is 0.65 m to its later platform. On the interior of Room 2 is one extant block measuring 1.09 m-by-0.20 m. At 0.275 m above this is the threshold, which is 1.62 m in east west length-by-0.33 m in width. This threshold block has ten iron bars mortared in place. Each of these bars measures 0.04 m-by-0.025 m, and they are set 0.0165 meters apart. The block with the fixed iron bars is the highest bock in the doorway. Below this, 0.15 m, are two limestone headers (0.40 m-by-0.48 m and 0.49 m-by-0.42 m. These two blocks are set against a sandstone stretcher on the east, measuring 0.74 m-by-0.37 m. In front of these three blocks on the west is a sandstone doorjamb 0.67 m-by-0.15 m, which has a posthole measuring 0.09 m-by-0.075 m. This block also has a horizontal groove 0.07 m in depth that is part of a trough or carved out horizontal doorstop. Next to this block on the east is a block measuring 0.87 m-by-0.64 m. And on the east is one-half a column drum of 0.48 m diameter packed with small stones. A crossbeam, probably wooden, was also put in place in the exterior ashlars to serve as a barrier in securing the doorway from entry. |
