Description	This is a rather crudely-built wall that is founded against the west side of the freestanding column in Trench 5, and it extends west to just past the boundary of Trench 5, into Trench 16. It forms the southern support wall for the secondary pavement uncovered last year. Its construction is varied, using both squared diagonally-dressed blocks and weathered rounded stones. The stones are all sandstone in varying degrees of decomposition. Presumably, the well-dressed ashlars are reused from somewhere else. If this wall was not perfectly situated to be part of the platform, and obviously part of it, it would be tempting to suggest that it is not contemporary with the other support walls of the platform, since its masonry style seems superior to that of the east, north (Trench 21) and west (Trench 16) walls. It may be, however, that this is the only one of the walls that does not extend between two columns, and in fact its unsupported corner necessitated better construction. This wall was excavated down to the level of the base of the freestanding column, which is also the level of the floor associated with the stairs; therefore, the foundation of this wall was not reached this season.
