Description | Locus 6 was a rock packing located in the southeastern corner of the trench. The soil of Locus 6, when the locus was first opened, was mostly dark olive-brown in color with occassional patches of a dark grayish-blue colored soil, but as the locus was excavated and the rocks were removed, the soil became increasingly dark grayish-blue in color. The soil in which the rocks were contained was extremely claylike and sometimes had a fetid odor. Some roots were contained in the soil and there were many medium-to-large sized rocks contained in this locus. Little archaeological material, including terracotta roofing tile and pottery, was found in the locus and no bone was recovered. Only ancient material was recovered from this locus, indicating that it is a contextually sound ancient deposit. Locus 6 is equivalent to Locus 5, the rock packing located north of Locus 6 along the eastern baulk wall of the trench, and to Locus 11, a rock packing excavated in the eastern extension of the trench. |
