Description |
This SU opens the NW corner of the trench. The soil is, again, the same as that which we have so far encountered throughout the trench—loose, sandy, yellowish-brown, gravel stone inclusions, which becomes slightly more consolidated deeper into the soil. The context material is immediately the same, some tile frags, sandstone chunks (4-5cm) and quite a lot of mortar frags (i.e., more debris). In this SU are 2 large, cut limestone blocks that appear to have been used in the walls of the Annex building. Both retain fragments of their original plaster. The north block measures M.P. length: 43 cm x m.p.w: 33 cm x m.p.h: 80 cm, while the southern block is m.p.l: 44 cm x m.p.w: 30 cm x m.p.h 53 cm. Once we dislodge the two stones, we’ll take more precise measurements. SU 7107 closed and to be joined with 7106. *This area was already excavated by DOA previously to at least 20 cm 17-6-09 addendum: see SU 7106 from addendum for explanation Bottom Elevations S: 7.69 masl C: 7.64 N: 7.66 |
