Description The reason we decided to excavate Special Project 95 on the west side of Trench 95 (cf. that report after the Trench 95 and 96 reports), was because we thought we might recover the earliest floor deposits to determine when the floor was put in place. What we found was a deposit of Nabataean pottery and thereby better understood that we were in a pre-construction Room phase. These were the earliest so far excavated in the stratigraphy of the Room 1 construction in the PE. We argue that this deposit of Nabataean wares was originally covered over by the Room 1 floor (which was robbed in antiquity). This locus did expose that there were earlier deposits of the PE which were razed or leveled out by the building of the Room 1 and possibly the other rooms, and were therefore considerably earlier than the building and use of these rooms.
