Top (m) Opening Elevation: 903.567 m on east face at ceiling.
Description s 8). The upper courses are rather shoddy in construction; they are built to support the uneven ceiling of the cistern’s southwest corner, and consist of small uneven stones wedged into position. The faces of the pillar are plastered, but the plastering has worn off in spots, and the uneven stones beneath can be seen through the gaps. On the east face of the pillar was found a crumbling Nabataean lamp (Special Find #1, Seq. No. SP 85021). This lamp was discovered upon initial exploration of the cistern, and was removed for preservation due to its very fragile condition. The lamp is of a type produced in the first century CE, but could also have been made in the second century CE. The dating of this lamp is very important to the phasing of the cistern as a whole, and will be discussed in the conclusions.
