Description | This level of fill was the lower of two levels found within the channels. It was distinctive from the upper level in its color, consistency and inclusions. This level seems to have originated during a time of use, rather then during a time of disuse. The level contained a dark soil, as well as loose mortar that appears to have collapsed from the walls. Within this locus were found pieces of at least four lamps, three of which were cataloged: Special Find 8001, upper surface of lamp; Special Find 8003, face of Nabataean lamp, first century CE, 'Amr Type 2; Special Find 8005, part of an erotic lamp. Also found was one-third of an intact juglet, (Special Find 8002). The pottery (P8004, P8005) consisted mainly of Nabataean or Roman sherds, but there were also many of the same nondescript sherds that came up elsewhere. Also found were four bones and a tooth. |
