General remarks The floor layer was visible as a white layer in section under 5164 and in trowelling by the ease with which the above layer could be peeled from the floor itself. The floor continues under the mudbrick feature 5170 and this makes it difficult to equate with surfaces 5185 and 5194 which though of the same consistency abut the wall (5170). However, it is possible that the wall itself cuts all these surfaces and the depression in 5169 is the result of pressure from the overlying wall that has sunk over time.

Has note Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci.
