Stage Stage 2
Description The massive and well-built sandstone wall strung between the columns of the interior colonnade in Phase II, preserved to a maximum height of 2.89 m in Trench 62. This Inter-Columnar wall serves to screen the building interior from the exterior corridors, and also creates the "framework" against which the Theatron seating is constructed. The ashlars of the exterior face of this wall (the one facing the East Corridor) fit much more closely than the roughly hewn stones of the interior face of the Temple East Exterior Wall, and there is less evidence for the thick and elaborate plastering seen on the Exterior Wall. The Inter-Columnar wall stops at the Deirdre Column, providing access to the east adytus maximus and the orchestra of the Theatron area. Since the Theatron fill (see above) obscures the interior (west) face of the wall, it is not possible to estimate the wall's thickness in Trench 62, or if the interior face is as well-constructed as the exterior.
Bottom (m) Closing Levels: 905.416 masl.
Stage Description Construction of the Theater and its support structure.
