Description Locus 1 is the topsoil of the CB-59. It is fairly loose dark soil rich in organic material and is hard to pick due to a dense concentration of roots. It is a shallow layer, extending down only for a few pages from the surface of the trench. Only 1 special find, a piece of medieval plaster, was recovered from Locus 1, but it was not cataloged. The locus extended throughout the entirety of the trench.
