Phase Description Phase VIII: Brief (?) period of abandonment. Collapse of the arches spanning the East 'Cistern.' Possible...
Description This lower west Cistern-Reservoir wall is supported by a bedrock base that curves northward from the south bedrock wall, just below the Locus 18 Residential Quarter Stairs. The wall has seen considerable collapse, heavy burning with clumps of charcoal falling out between its stones, and as it is now exposed to the air will dry out and continue to crumble. Its sandstone ashlars that are primarily set as headers, wet-laid with mortar, are missing and are slumping out of position from about 4.00 m from its south extent. In the north it finds better support from the upper wall, Loci 23 and 43. It is, therefore, in an uneven and broken condition. It is reasoned to be contemporary with Loci 23 and 43, and is placed in the same phase.
