Description |
Locus 7 underlies Locus 6 and is in the same place as and abuts Locus 5. There were many small to medium-sized rocks and tree roots. Soil was dark gray-brown and mottled with charcoal inclusions and flecks of what may be plaster or terracotta. Soil was very compact. Byproducts of animal butchery such as bone, cut bone, a bone bead, partial jaws, and teeth were found. In addition, pottery, metal fragments, and an obsidian flake were recovered. No architectural features were found to explain the presence of this material assemblage. Excavation revealed two large sections of bedrock in the southwestern 1.5m of Locus 7. The bedrock slopes down from west to east. Due to the natural lens created by the bedrock and the lack of architectural features which could explain the presence of material, it is likely that this space was utilized as a midden. When excavation revealed a lighter, more yellow deposit of untouched and sterile soil, the locus was closed. Catalogued Finds: PC20220071, PC20220073 |
