Description This wall has so far revealed four courses of ashlar blocks, with many blocks apparently lost in the upper levels. Some of these missing blocks have been retrieved from the fill and numbered, e.g. P/ST 019. In the lower level of the wall there are two rows that have so far been uncovered, but there are presumably further rows that are hidden by the levelling stones and northern wall, Locus 28. The blocks are of Nabataean construction, hewn, dressed diagonally and mortared in place. This locus was placed in this stage since it had to be in place before the staircase was constructed. It would be informative to excavate its lower courses to ascertain the true depth of the staircase and the origin of the lower hexagonal pavement.
Stage Description Eastern ashlar wall and Central Staircase constructed.
Is Cut by Locus 28 (the northern retaining wall).
