Description | This is broken sandstone flooring that has been compromised by the collapse of the bath superstructure. It appears to have been wet-laid but most of the original mortar has eroded away. Just set in a single course, the stones next to the wall have slumped out of position. These pavement stones lie 0.65 m above the earlier floor level. There are only five stones left in situ that extend up to the south wall of the curvilinear chamber. Although this may be a floor pavement that is of a later phase than the earliest building of the complex, the bath system seems to have been planned as a single unit and it appears that it is on the same axis of orientation as the Great Temple, northwest to southeast. This locus along with others of the bath complex appears to be self-contained elements in an overall design that physically distinguish different areas of the baths. |
