Stage Description | Installation of the Hexagonal Pavement and the construction of the West Exedra. |
Definition | Curbstones. |
Description | Locus 9 is comprised of rectangular curbstones which alternate from red sandstone to limestone. It is very possibly intentional not only because it is aesthetically pleasing, but because the same pattern is found on the east edge of the colonnade in the Lower Temenos (Trench 14 1995). Apparently the curbstones are used as a transitional decorative element between the Hexagonal Pavement (Locus 7) and the stylobate (Locus 10). It underlies Locus 6 which is the layer of abandonment. Each curbstone is 0.79 m wide, 0.385 m long and 0.165 m thick. |
