Phase IV
Description The tetrastyle wall is composed of large well-hewn ashlar top slabs that are positioned north south which are set upon five courses of rough hewn sandstone ashlars, which lack a consistant header and stretcher constuction. The construction of the wall relies on chinking stones to fill in the empty places. The wall has no trace of a builder’s trench and is founded on soil. Compared to the other foundation walls found in the sondage, less care has been given to the overall construction and potential integrity of the foundation, which is a component to not phasing this section with the rest of architecture in the area.
Architectural or Soil Locus? Architectural
Location The north boundary of the sondage.
