Descriptive Attribute Value(s)
Description The Scalarion providing access from the West Aditus Maximus to the west half of the cavea. It rises from the floor level of the West Aditus Maximus, at a point immediately west of the threshold, up to the walkway on the lowest tier of the Cavea. This Scalarion is constructed of sandstone blocks approximately 0.65-0.70 m wide and ranging from 0.16 to 0.26 m in height. The elevations for the Scalarion, including the floor and the seven steps (a-g), from bottom to top are: Floor 885.98 m, Step a 905.736 m, Step b 905.976 m, Step c 906.236 m, Step d 906.486 m, Step e 906.646 m, Step f 906.836 m, Step g 907.036 m. The step tread's measure between 0.18 m and 0.30 m in depth. Of note is the fact that the steps of this Scalarion are on the whole higher and shallower than those of the Scalaria Loci 8 and 11. Their shallow treads make it awkward to ascend and descend. (Seq. 47165).
