General remarks	Oven interior, fourth level from top, N-half. At this level the N and S were divided so that a section could be seen before taking down the other half (L5124). Arbitrary division for vertical control. This locus is the northern half of the oven (L5138) located in the central eastern part of the trench. This oven is partially contained in the east baulk. This locus was created because the northern wall of the oven (L5138) is cut by a pit. This locus will separate any contamination from the pit and keep the neighboring locus (L5124) clean.

Has note	Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci.
