General remarks | This is a cleaning locus. The top 5cm of the main part of the trench (not including L1068 and L1069) are being removed in order to see what is going on below. Top and bottom elevations show a bit of variance since there were so many different cuts and heights left over from last years excavation. This locus will be continued for the western section as new KT numbers since the western half had been excavated to a greater extent in the 2001 season and is approximately 10-15cm lower than the eastern section. |

Has note | Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci. |
