Description Earth and rock fill covering the top of the preserved height of the west half of the Cavea. This area was excavated during the 1996 season as part of Trench 22 (exposing the top of the apsidal wall). This area was back-filled at the beginning of the 1997 season in order to allow the bulldozer to drive over this area while replacing column drums on the Lee Column without damaging the exposed architecture. Locus 1, therefore, is not important archaeologically since it originates from another place. Only the glass shards found within it were saved for the glass study by Sara G. Karz. (Seq. 47002).
