Architectural or Soil Locus? Soil
Overlies unexcavated earth.
Description This is a Munsell Brown soil (7.5 YR 4/4). The original goal of the locus was to isolate the wall by excavating 1.00 m to the East of the western boundary of the wall to a level equal to the pavement in the East Walkway, and then to remove any dirt still covering the wall. The width of 1.00 m was decided upon, as that was slightly wider than the East Walkway Wall, which was suggested to be coeval in construction. However, as Locus 3 isolated the maximum width of the wall the area, work was stopped before the Locus reached a depth equal to the walkway floor. The soil composition of the locus was similar soil to Loci 1 and 2, though slightly more moist. As with Locus 2, Locus 3 contained some Nabataean painted pottery along with assorted other sherds. Though, unlike Locus 2, the handle of a large storage vessel was found along with a stucco fragment.
