Title Architectural Ornament, Animal Foot (?) Fragment
Primary photo False
Photo Type Cataloged Artifact
Photo ID 6733
Album ID 0
Description Fragment apparently preserves part of foot of an animal architectural ornament: remaining base section is broken rectangle with semicircular tube-like hole through it; on top of this plinth-like piece is preserved the front section of a possible cloven hoof, broken across back at point where tubular hole would have joined the foot proper just behind the hoof section. Bottom surface of base is finished and flat, with trace, on its left side, of terracotta turned down and away from foot - present piece was obviously part of a much larger object. Top surface now consists of small flat area on left side of foot, and front of hoof, two pointed, up-turned rounded sections of clay flat and almost vertical on the outer sides and separated by a deep groove in the center. Fragment apparently part of an animal statue hollow at least in part and set on some larger section of terracotta, presumably for erection as architectural ornament.
