K/79 was cleaned further with trowels.  The area is rich in plaster with scattered tile and pithos fragments.  Stones are present as well, but in no apparent line or pattern.  Photographs were taken.  The area is roughly 10 cm above the floor level of the S.E. building.

After photography, tiles were lifted.  This area is not

a true "tile fall" - no complete widths or lengths are present, nor are tiles stacked on top of one another.  The presence of upper building gorgon hair confirms the idea that this material was scraped here.  During cleaning, a few large pieces of plaster came up.

G-I/78 were taken down to a c. 50 cm below the northern baulk.  A tree sits in the middle of these six meters.  Soil remains loose brown topsoil, although it seems we have come on top of the next lighter stratum - particularly in I/78-79.  Many tile fragments came up in this cut and a latte box of pottery.  A shallow impasto bowl was found in I/78.  A great deal of it was preserved.

The bowl fragment mentioned on 7/5/90 was lifted and brought to the magazino for comparison with last year's pottery.  Since it was right on our baulk, parts of it may have been taken down in 1989.  Cleaning in K/79 produced tiny slivers of ivory - blue with burning.  Pithos fragments burnt black came up as well.  These may join with pithos fragments from K/78.

H-I/80 were taken down to 45-50 cm mark.  This morning's work in this area produced 2 latte boxes of pottery.  Two cassete of tile were filled.  K/79 produced 2 cassette of tile and plaster.  One flake of bronze came up.

Meter J/78 was picked down to 105-110 cm.  This meter was particularly empty of material of any kind.  As work progressed into K/78 and J/79, terracotta tile and pottery was encountered, so picking was stopped.

G-H/79 were taken down to c. 45-50 cm.  This area produced a bronze nail and an acroterion fragment.  Tile was abundant, but pottery filled only 1/4 of a latte box.  Pithos fragments came up as well.  H/80 produced a possible acroterion fragment amongst many tile fragments.
