A pick pass was started in the northern most meter of the trench. Soil was shoveled and sorted in the wheelbarrow. Worn terracotta was recovered. The next meter (51-52S) was picked and shoveled. Terracotta and pottery was collected. The final meter was picked. Soil was shoveled and sorted at the wheelbarrow. The northern 2 meters of the trench were picked again. Soil was shoveled into buckets and examined at the wheelbarrow. Tile and pottery was recovered. The southern 2 meters were picked again. While picking between 51 and 52 S a piece of cavetto was found (SF #1). The final southern meter of the trench is starting to come up with the darker soil uncovered in CB 57. Soil was shoveled and sorted @ the wheelbarrow. Picking started again in the northern meter. Due to workers from CB 53 working along the eastern baulk of the trench only ¾ of each meter will be picked until they finish working. While sorting the terracotta bowl an unusual piece of terracotta was found (SF #2). The soil was shoveled from the northern meter and sorted at the wheelbarrow. While sorting a large piece of iron was found (SF #3). The next meter south was picked. Shovels were used. Soiled was sorted at the wheelbarrow. Tile is still being found. The 3rd meter south was picked. Here more of the dark-brown soil was uncovered
Since the southern half of the trench is turning up the dark-brown soil that part will be left alone while the rest of the Locus 5 is removed from the northern half. Picking starting in the norther meter. Soil was shoveled and sorted in the wheelbarrow. Tile and pottery was found. The workers finished on the eastern baulk. This area was picked to bring it level to the rest of the trench. Before lunch the trench was cleaned up, roots clipped, and some of the northern baulk was trimmed.

The northern half of the trench was picked and shoveled. Soil was sorted at the wheelbarrow. Tile and pottery was found. The northern half of the trench was picked again. The soil was shoveled into buckets and sorted at the wheelbarrow. It was noticed that the darker soil seems to be coming up in this part of the trench, but there is still much loose soil which is obscuring the floor so the trench was scraped to expose the change. The floor is too baked out to tell any change so we will wait until tomorrow to declare a new locus. The northern baulk wall was trimmed, along the borders the ridges were knocked down.
