Work continued in the north extensions of Trenches 18 and 19.
T-19 Grids J-M/34-36:
This area was cleared down to the level of the large pithos fragments ( see plan, p. 150 ), 90 cm below topsoil. The fragments belong to two or three pithoi and include bases and parts of the wall. No rims were found. The area was then cleared down to the tile layer. This layer is similar to that found in the grids to the west, T-19 J-M/33. It consists of small fragments of terracotta in heavy concentration and tightly packed into a layer approx. [no information given] cm thick. This tile layer thins out in the northeast corner of the trench.
- 3 cassetti of tiles discarded
T-18 Grids J-L/28-30:
One man finished clearing the bucchero stratum at the north end of the trench while another cleared the area of the rocks at the south end of the trench (J/28-30) which appear to be a continuation of the stone foundation to the east. He then began to excavate the reddish soil stratum immediately north of the stones (J-K/30). This stratum contains a heavy concentratino of orange-red pottery, almost exclusively plain-stemmed bowls.
- 2 cassetti of tiles discarded
- 2 cassette of pottery
- Find #1
- T-18 M/30
- Bucchero layer
- Bronze nail, slightly domed head, shaft rectangular in cross section
