AM

Today we mostly concentrated our efforts in locus 4, (16, 17, 18 W-3 S). But first we swept the trench all over in order to make ti look nice for the pictures that were taken this morning. After the pictures were taken we began by taking a 2-3 cm cut in meter 3 S 16 W. We started with pickaxes but switched to trowels as more small stones began to emerge from the soil. The stones thus far ncovered have been small and scattered. They do not appear as of yet to have a regular formation. We then took a 2-3 cm cut in meter 17 W, 4 S with pickaxes. This meter did not reveal any stones.

PM

After lunch we took a 2-3 cm cut in meters 3 S, 17 + 18 W and 4 S 18 W. We uncovered more stones and troweled carefully around them. During the morning we made 1 special find, an archaic

ceramic base. The find was found in locus 4 at coordinates 3.62 S and 17.53 W and at 119 cm below datum. We also found a quarter of a latte box of pottery and about 2 dozen pieces of terracotta. Also one bone fragment was found today. The soil we worked in today was consistenly the dark brown topsoil encountered throughout the rest of the trench. It contained many roots and other organic material.
