We continued the topsoil cut into locus 16 which was started on the 27th.  We made a cut 10cm eep and extended it throughout meters 273-275S/275-277E.  Locus 16 contained several large stumps, but all were removed with this initial cut.  Locus 16 produced 1 full latte box of terracotta consisting mostly of very worn and small fragments.  It also produced 6 fragments of pottery consisting of 2 impasto fragments and 4 coarseware fragments.  A new locus was reached and was defined as locus 17 characteristically medium to light brown soil with small, which, stone particulates throughout.

A large cut was started in locus 17 extending through meters 274-275S/275-277E.  Pockets of galestra can be seen at the base of this cut and several pockets of decayed stumps have also been discovered.  Locus 17 produced 1/2 latte box of very worn terracotta fragments and 4 fragments of coarseware and 11 fragments of impasto.  One special find wa tracked from this locus.  It is a fragment of a greyware handle.
