AM

We began the morning by plotting out the points of trench T-18. We shot a point from PC6 to 28N, 150E and then to 28N, 163E. We set the transit over this point and shot another point to 34N, 170E. The coordinates of the four corners of this trench are 35N, 173E; 30.5N, 173E; 35N, 170E; 30.5N, 170E. After the trench was laid out, the area was cleared of brush and an architectural feature (?) was noticed. The trench was split into two loci. Locus 1 is the soil at the lower elevation at the northern end of the trench. Locus 2 is characterized by the rock formation at the higher elevation.

PM

Excavations began in the northern end of the trench in locus 1 with only a slight pass being made. Work then was focused on defining the rocks which form the formation in the southern end of the trench in locus 2. The area of locus 2 was taken down about 10cm. A distinct linear formation of rocks is present, but it appears to be a line a stones, one stone wide. Locus 2 seems to be unexcavated due to the amount of pottery and

terracotta found today. The datum point for the trench is placed on the tree which stands on a baulk wall in the north of T-18 probably near the 37N, 171E point. Locus 1 produced 2 fragments of pottery and 2 fragments of bone and a quarter latte box of terracotta. Locus 2 produced 1 latte box of pottery and bone and 2.25 latte boxes of terracotta and plaster
