Pottery Summary:
CB 46 yielded a relatively small amount of pottery. In all eight loci and in baulk trim, impasto was by far the most common fabric type found, although tangible amounts of courseware and fine impasto were recovered as well.
Locus 1, the initial hummus layer of CB-46, has a similar pottery summary as Locus 4 and Locus 5, the topsoil of both the northern and southern extensions. In these loci an exceptionally little amount of pottery was discovered (18, 1, and 5 sherds respectively). Of those found, the great majority were impasto. Impasto diagnostic pottery was discovered in all three loci, and in locus 1 representative diagnostics were also found in courseware and in fine impasto, though these were not common.
Locus 2, Locus 6, and Locus 7 additionally share a soil type. The soil within these loci was olive/brown and far more claylike than the dry, crumbly hummus layer of the anterior loci. Despite this similarity, the pottery spread within these areas varied demonstrably. Locus 2, excavated at the outset, demonstrated a fair to small amount of pottery (71 sherds, notably more than the locus 1 above it). While the majority was impasto
