August 4th

Grids M/6-7 were excavated from the burn layer (dark grey soil) downwards.  Once again the burn layer produced the only noticeable finds, including numerous pieces of bucchero and impasto, a quantity of fragments originating from Ionic bowls, and 3 sherds of Italo-Corinthian.  The burn layer of M-7 also contained 2 statue fragments, recognized as two pieces of the brim of a hat belonging to a seated statue akroterion.
