AM

An area immediately to the north of the upper building and west of the north building was cleared of rocks and grass.  A 3x6 trench was then laid out by traingulating off the north wall of the upper building at meters F-H/13-19.  A 10 cm topsoil cut was taken in meters G-H/13 and H/15-16.  The soil in these meters was light brown in color and very loose in consistency, perhaps indicating a fill layer.

A total of 4 boxes of mixed pottery, including fine bucchero - 2 boxes from each

area excavated - were recovered.  Two boxes of bone and one cassetta of tile, including some pithos, were also found.

PM

The trench was reoriented into meters F-L/16-19 in order to obtain a n/s section.  A cut was then begun in K-L/16-19 through the pre-existing trench baulk of T-18 to a depth of ca. 25 cm.  The soil was dark brown in color and contained a high concentration of large rocks, perhaps forming part of a rock pack.  This heavy layer of rocks rendered excavation difficult in these meters.

Two boxes of mixed pottery, including some burned pieces, and three quarters of a cassetta of worn tile were recovered.
