There were 10 pieces of slag recovered from CB 54 in total. Locus 5 yielded 2 pieces (100 g), locus 6 yielded 7 pieces (220g) of which one was cataloged ( 20120147 ). One piece was recovered from the baulk trim (20g). There was a single piece of crucible fragment with slag attached recovered from locus 5 ( 20120145 ). Locus 5 appears to be a post-archaic erosional fill from higher up on the site. Locus 6 seems to be an archaic layer, based on the recovery of architectural terracotta in it (see pottery summary). It is interesting to note that this is less slag than the amounts found in the Civitate A trenches excavated to the north across the medieval road in 2012.
