A datum point was established. Locus 1 was declared open across the entire trench and opening photos and elevations were taken.

After cleaning the surface of loose rocks, digging began at the north edge of the trench and moving south using hand picks. The soil is dry and loose, greyish brown in color and filled with roots and organic material. The western half of the trench contains a noticably larger amount of rocks than the eastern half. Most of the terracotta also comes from the western half. By lunch the entire area of the trench had been taken down a few centimeters.

The entire surface was taken down in two passes using handpicks, the only finds being terracotta and a single piece of pottery. In the NE section of the trench the soil is getting lighter in color. Digging continued in the rest of the trench in an attempt to establish the extent of the lighter soil.
