Work contined intrenches 2A and 2E. In the central part of 2A (after more of the dyke had been removed) bedrock was reached at a depth of 1.30m. This layer, at ranging depths, appears to cover the bottom of the whole trench and indeed, of much of the complex. Where higher stone (collapsed wall, foundations, or paving) does not provide a reason for excavation no deeper, this layer of bedrock determines the depth of the trench. Most of the pottery found so far has been just above bedrock.
In trench 2E excavation of the top stratum continued with picks, but in the south end, where the galestra
appears at a depth of 0.27m along the south wall, and slopes down towards the north, two finds were made:
An unidentified piece of heavy terracotta, with most finished edges preserved, was found at a depth of 0.40m, 1.0m from the south end of the trench, and 1.45m from the west side (Find # 1).
A section of lateral sima, with most of one attached waterspout (feline head) preserved, was found at a depth of 0.51m in the west wall of the trench, 0.86m from the south (Find # 2).
At this level, however, no large pieces of tile nor significant architectural fragments were found.
