As little progress was made on Friday, elevations will be taken at the end of the day. A pick pass was done in the western half of the trench and the resulting soil sorted. The southern baulk wall was established and defined. Raised areas were then re-picked, once more in the western half. A pick pass was then done in the eastern half of the trench. After this was picked up, roots were clipped. Patches of yellow clay are appearing in the south. This was defined and work refocused on the northern metre. The large roots were cut with an axe and the north-west area around the stumps was picked. Loose soil among the stumps and roots was removed with hand picks and trowels. A further pick pass was done in the central area to level the trench. The yellow clay is becoming established across the majority of the trench and was declared Locus 2.
The area around Stumps A-D remains Locus 1 , as shown below.
Locus 1 totals: Terracotta \xbd bowl. Pottery 2 pieces. Bone 0 pieces. No special finds.
Locus 2 opening photographs were taken. Opening elevations were taken in the NE, SE and SW corners and at point O in the NW corner of Locus 2.

Work continued clearing the last pick pass of the morning in the northern metre. Another pick pass was then done across the western half of the trench, skirting around the stump area of Locus 1. A piece of plaster was found amognst terracotta fragments. The eastern half of the trench was then picked over and cleared. The south west metre was then picked again. While soil was sorted baulk walls were trimmed. Roots were clipped and closing elevations taken.
