F98 was excavated to floor level and several stumps were removed. Most of this cut was through the usual dark brown clay like soil, but the lowest 5 cm appeared to be yellow near galestra. A piece of incised bucchero (find 1) and two pieces of (possible) worked bone (find 4) were recovered, along with 1/2 box pottery and 1/4 cassetta tile
F-G 95 (w), at the tile fall level, was excavated with hand tools to determine if the tile fall extended that far. No signs of tile were seen, but several pieces of storage pottery, orangeware, thin impasto, and bone were found. This amounted to approximately 3/4 box pottery.
Continued work on the tile fall and 1987 tile fall area, G-H 92, further defined the western edge of the unexcavated fall, and showed that little remains below the level of the 1987 fall. * 3/4 of a small box of pottery was recovered. * Bone and scattered pieces of pottery (all types) were found.

P.M.
The area encompassing the 1987 tile fall, large stump, and western 1988 tile fall, G-H 88-92, continue to be cleared. One-half of a box of pottery and bone was recovered.
The tile pieces removed during earlier clearing of other parts of the tile fall were sorted into one cassetta of pan tile fragments and one cassetta of cover fragments. This was done to facilitate finding joins when the tile fall is lifted.
During this sorting, a possible hair fragment and a cover tile with finger mark were found.
A southern extension of the east side of the trench was begun in K 97-98. It was taken to a depth of 15-20 cm. One-half cassetta of tile and one-quarter box pottery were recovered.
Backfil in H-J 93-96 continued to be removed.
