Today we dug a small 50cm x 20cm window into the W side of L3072, which is in the SE corner of the trench, where it is cut by the foundation trench of wall L3068, L3076, in order to see how far the foundation trench went down. We found that it only goes down about 2-3cm further than its current height. Knowing this we began to dig L3078 so that we can get down to the 2nd millennium surface we can see at the bottom of pit L3064 which is in the E baulk near the south end. We also are digging the large pit that cut the wall L3068. This pit also seems to cut through both Iron Age and 2nd Millennium surfaces, so, it could be that the pit was originally cut through the wall for a small oven which was later destroyed ( we found the remains, oven fragments found in the pit, KT____) and a large square oven L____ was built on top, also being founded on the remnants of wall L3068. Today in the pit we found several carbon samples, of which the most notable one was C.3.3077.25 which is a 20cm piece of dirt with 12+ pieces of carbon in it, closely packed. We also found a carbon sample that contains 3 pieces of grain.
