26/6/2012
AM:
Work began with a light hand pick pass over slightly elevated areas to level the trench. A pick pass was then run through the southern half of the trench. This was matched in the northern half and the resulting dirt was manually sorted into buckets. This process was then repeated a second time. During this second pick pass special find #1 was discovered in the northwestern section of the trench.
SF#1
Medieval Pottery
34.57S, 60.55E
AE: 27.2m
This medieval pottery shard was glazed brown on its exterior curvature with a white smudge not dissimilar to a fingerprint. The interior was glazed white with possible green lettering. On account of a brief hiatus we finished clearing the dirt after an impromptu lecture and then clipped the roots protruding form the floor and walls of the trench were defined.
PM:
We continued with the clearance of dirt from the baulk wall enhancement and followed with a pick pass through the southern portion of the trench and cleared the dirt as usual.
Over the course of the day there was a substantial number of special finds in addition to the previously mentioned medieval pottery. They have been sorted into AM and PM finds below:
