A.M.
The floor was cleaned and parts were swept. Also the area immediately north of 83-95 was cleared of brush.
P.M.
All uncovered areas were swept and the general area of the trench cleaned up. More plastic was taken off the covertiles. In general, so far it appeared that the tiles to the north were in the worst condition with those moving more south better preserved. In meters 54-57/W-Z (see M.- Wilcox Book I) plastic was pulled up over the poorly preserved floor. Here the bases appeared in quite good condition as did the remaining parts of the terracotta "ribbon" (see C. Tutt Books I-III).
In 86-90/L-J the topsoil cut was continued. Much of this material was dump soil containing lots of plaster and some terracotta and pottery and bone. The soil was more powdery
and yellowish in color and clearly distinguishable from the surrounding topsoil and the topsoil underneath. About 1 cassetta of mixed plaster and tile was removed and about ½ latte box of ceramics.
