Boxes tile 2

Cartons pottery 4+

We complete the cut in grids O-P 38-39, finding an uneven, subsiding burn layer with some white and yellow material above and now a hard, whitish clay, probably galestra, below, at the floor of the cut and a depth of 50 cm.  Roof tile continues to appear in quantity in and near the burn material.  Pottery is scant but is frequently bucchero.  One fragment of bronze slag and some, probably, of ivory (#1, 3, 4, 7)

We then clean down the perimeter, walls, and floor of the trench to prepare for final drawings and photographs.  The area around the wall is often burn layer soil and produces a great deal of pottery.  Some bronze slag, including one large chunk.
